We have known Michael for years and years. We're proud to finally do a project with him. We also asked him a few questions to give everyone a glimpse into this talented photographer.

How has that been, big jump or easy?
I had been daydreaming about living in New York for a long time, so it feels very surreal. Definitely a big change, but I feel really lucky and have been trying to make the most of it as best I can. 

How’d you get started?
I've been drawing and making things since I was little. Then I studied graphic design and a little bit of photography in college. 

Tell me about your photo journey.
I took a photo class in high school and then a couple more in college. After college I got way more into photography and started making zines. 

I’m not 100% sure how I came across your work, but I am correct in remembering some “track and field” zines…
I recall seeing those and thinking how honest they felt. Were you in college or high school at the time?
I ran cross-country in high school. After college I had the idea to try and document some races similarly to how I was documenting skateboarding at the time. 

What do you like to shoot?

I like taking photos of all kinds of things, but I love taking portraits of people the most. 

Tell us about Frog Friends.
A few years ago I started going on long walks in my old neighborhood in South City St. Louis and noticed that the most common lawn ornament I would see were frogs for some reason. I really liked them and thought they were funny and friendly, and decided to make a zine of my favorite ones. 

What’s in the works?

I'll be tabling at the Printed Matter NY Art Book Fair for the first time which I'm really stoked about, so I've been working on some new photo zines for that. 

Dayjob?

Not at the moment, but I'm currently looking. 

Biggest inspirations.
Jason Polan, always. 

Are you a camera gear head at all?
A little bit over the years, but I keep it pretty simple nowadays. The cameras I used most often lately are a Yashica T4 and Contax G1 for film, and a Canon 5DSR for digital. 

Favorite photographers, legends and peers.
William Eggleston and Lauren Greenfield were big influences on me when I was younger, and lately I really love Lee Manning and Peter Sutherland's work a whole lot.
