Bend Press Book Release Party and Pop Up Shop
Mar 24, 2017

The Quiet Life is proudly hosting a book release party, pop up shop, and book signing to celebrate the release of “What Happened” – an anthology of short stories by Andy Jenkins, with illustrations by the very talented, Travis Millard.

What Happened is a compilation of short, written pieces, by author, Andy Jenkins. A grouping of relatable observations, lists, foggy recollections and even “Several B-grade Opening Lines For Novels or Short Stories,” in a piece entitled, “For Your Convenience.” The work is a celebration of the typically mundane — from visiting his psychiatrist to buying a used Lincoln Towncar and riding the bus. Jenkins’s writing captures the ordinary moments in a voice ranging from humorous and quirky, to, at times, thought provoking and real. As a bonus, the accompanying illustrations, by the talented Travis Millard, are spot-on interpretations of this oddball collection. A perfect paring.

The prose in What Happened is a selection from Bender, Jenkins’s regular column, published in Monster Children magazine.

Bend Press began as a hand-made zine in 1986 and progressed throughout the years, issue by issue, project by project, until becoming an “actual” book publishing company in 1998. Over its 30 year span, Bend has experimented with formats, content, contributors, design and printing techniques. They guide each and every piece they release — be it an off-set printed book, limited edition hand-bound publication, or art object — with care, from the initial concept through creation. What Happened is Bend’s 25th publication.

Bend Press and The Quiet Life have gotten together to make a mini capsule to celebrate this release. We’ve created a lapel pin, pencil, long and short sleeve T and 2 hats.

Andy Jenkins was the original art director for Girl Skateboards in 1993.
Over the years he has collaborated and consulted with numerous culturally iconic brands on a wide variety of projects. He is a multi-media art machine,
working as a creative director, graphic artist, illustrator, editor, publisher, artist, writer, dad, and, at times, a skater.

Come to our shop in Highland Park on Saturday 3/25 between 1-4 to
get a book signed, meet Jenkins and Travis, grab a drink and say hi.
Hope to see you there.

We’ll be release this limited collab at the event on 3/25/17 at The Quiet Life – with online release to follow.
